Contrite

Psalm 34:18 Amplified says, “The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.”  Penitent means: conscience-stricken, regretful.

Romans 8:7  says that are carnal, fleshly mind is enmity against God.  Our carnal way of thinking dictates our actions against God way.

A contrite hearts willingly dies to its flesh.  We recognize afresh that He died in His flesh, to give us grace to conquer our flesh.  Colossians 1:21-22 says, “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.”

  1. Here again is another benefit of the Grace we have been given. We may not think so at first, but soon learn that ‘we’ can not change ourselves and be changed from enemies to being His Child. The verse in Col 1:21 is one I have recently worked on to get into my memory. Only through the grace given to us can the change we so need be accomplished. “And that NOT of ourselves” for the wonder of it all is the love that came down to bring about a change from the aliens and strangers by wicked works that we all have been, to being presented to Him “holy, without blame and above reproach” or as the KJV puts it “unreproveable”. And that it comes only through faith in what Christ has done FOR us. What a benefit of His Grace!
